Honors- Symphonic Band
This ensemble requires previous playing and marching experience (obtainable in Middle and High School), plus an audition and approval of the James M. Bennett High Director of Bands.
The Symphonic Band is an advanced ensemble with an emphasis on performance. Students will continue to develop proper instrumental techniques, musical tone, as well as interpretation. This band performs at several concerts and festivals, as well as community events. This band is also the marching band during football season and performs at all home football games, as well as several competitions and the Salisbury Christmas Parade.
All members of the Symphonic Band are required to abide by the rules set in the Band Handbook, including attending all after-school and summer band rehearsals and performances.
This course is eligible for repeated credit.

Concert Band is a continuation of instrumental music from middle school. The band is designed to develop greater skill on the student's chosen instrument, a good musical tone, knowledge of major scales, and the capabilities to play more advanced band literature. This course is for those whose level of musicianship does not yet qualify them for selection to the symphonic band. Concert Band students may participate in the marching band as their interest and abilities allow with the permission of the band director. All members of the Concert Band are required to attend all after-school and summer band rehearsals and performances.
This course is eligible for repeated credit.

Jazz Band
This new ensemble is forming in Spring of 2027! The ensemble will meet on Tuesday nights in the JMB auditorium. Auditions for this ensemble will take place in February 2027. Students should prepare two excerpts of different styles to audition with (fast/slow). These auditions are mostly focused on placements and playing abilities rather than entry. There will be many opportunities for musicians of various types within this ensemble. Membership in other ensembles is not required to join this extra curricular ensemble.

Color Guard/ Band Front
Color Guard is offered as a class (Band Front) as well as an extra curricular.
Clinics to prepare for auditions begin in March. Auditions take place in June with a cutoff of July 1st to join. Auditions will be held again in November for anyone who misses the cut off and wishes to join for the Salisbury Christmas Parade/Winter Concert.
Students learn the fundamentals of performing with silks (flags) and rifles, as well as marching and dance techniques. This ensemble offers an opportunity for students who do not play instruments to be part of the marching band. Some instrumentalists join because they enjoy different perspective of color guard performance as well.
